The U.S. Navy Cadets of Minnesota is for young adults ages 14-18, to experience military life at an earlier age. Though serving as a cadet does not require mandatory transfer to active duty in any branch after age 18, all earned certifications, qualifications, and up to the rank of E-3 can, if earned as a cadet. During their service in the NCMN, cadets rank up and earn countless certifications/qualifications, both military and civilian. Located in the Duluth, Superior and Hermantown area, the NCMN specializes in shipboard operations, medical, and damage control (shipboard firefighting). In addition, cadets will work in the rates of:
-Boatswain's Mate (BM): [Drives ships/boats, moors vessels, line handling, anchoring, seamanship]
-Culinary Specialist (CS): [Supply Department, cooks, handles meal logistics, runs our ship store]
-Damage Controlman (DC): [Combats fire/flooding/toxic gas, is shipboard safety, engineering dept.]
-Engineman (EN): [Maintains and operates engines, generators and other machinery, engineering dept.]
-Hospitalman (HM): [Everything medical, first aid, tactical combat casualty care, community health]
-Master-At-Arms (MA): [Navy Law Enforcement, weapons experts, watchstanding, security]
-Quartermaster (QM): [Navigation Department, communications, flags, electronics, charts]
Many of our cadets who did decide to transfer to active duty stated that the only difference between this and active duty, was just the age of the people serving, even then, the average age of our cadets is 1-3 years age difference from those on active duty. Nothing is "watered down" and our cadets receive the exact same training as their active duty counterparts. Simply put, this is the real deal! Nowhere else will you find anywhere where young men and women in their teens have the opportunities to train and work in the competitive job market in numerous fields setting them up for success NOW, not just their future!
