The U.S. Navy Cadets of Minnesota is currently seeking recruits between the ages of 14 and 18 and not yet a senior in High School. All potential cadets must be able to pass a physical that can be done by any licensed physician. The Navy Cadets are also compliant with all ADA laws. Where a medical condition precludes full, unlimited service, a Request for Reasonable Accommodation may be presented by the parent or guardian for review so the recruit may conduct service to the maximum extent possible. The prospective recruit must be a U.S. citizen, drug free, gang free, felony free, and be a full-time student.
Cadets are required to report to drill one weekend per month, year-round, and report to one, two-week training (TWT) annually. All recruits are required to complete boot camp for their first navy training. Upon completing Boot Camp, they will be eligible to report to all advanced trainings in their desired career fields.
Before signing anything, the prospective recruit is required to shadow a drill weekend (both Saturday & Sunday) and discover if the military is right for them. We ask that the prospective recruit bring at least one legal parent/guardian to sign and accept any paperwork. Nothing signed mandates required active duty service after age 18 in the armed forces for any branch. During the beginning of drill, we will conduct indoc with the parent(s) AND prospective recruit, which involves a 30-45 minute PowerPoint. You will also be given forms for joining if not provided prior. Even if you are on the fence about joining, we recommend at least getting started on the forms right away as they do take some time. Once the prospective recruit has completed being UI (Under Instruction) by observing a drill weekend both Saturday and Sunday, they can make their decision to join that same Sunday and will be sworn in.
